Myoko Snow Report 27 January 2017

Myoko Snow Report 27 January 2017

Current Conditions:

Another beautiful start this morning in Myoko with just a little high cloud about and light wind. -3 degrees and the snow is still relatively fresh, although a little crusty on top after yesterdays sun.

24 Hour Recap:

What a day we had. Sunshine all day and no wind. High cloud cover moved in overnight and is still hanging around this morning.

Weather Outlook:

The high cloud cover will dissipate around lunchtime and some low cloud will move in this afternoon and bring with it some snow. There is the chance of some rain down low but on hill areas should be safe. Sunny again tomorrow and then some rain unfortunately arriving from the south west tomorrow night. The temperature will drop on Monday as the low moves to the east and drags cold air in from the north west. The chance of more snow next Wednesday/Thursday.

Myoko Snow Report 26 January 2017

Current Conditions:

Not a cloud in sight this morning in Myoko. Epic conditions out there on a healthy 3.5 metre base. -8 degrees and no wind.

24 Hour Recap:

Although most forecasts had little to no snow in the yesterday we scored quite a bit throughout the day on the tail end of the last cold front. A bit of sun here and there and then a mostly clear night.

Weather Outlook:

Remaining clear until tomorrow, when the tail end of a big Hokkaido snowstorm just reaches us and we get a few centimetres of snow. Clearing up again on Saturday and then some warm wet air unfortunately moves in from the south west and we get a little rain on Sunday. Unfortunately I can’t see this one changing too much. The damage to the snowdepth will be insignificant, however it will create a dangerous layer in the snowpack which will increase avalanche risk in the backcountry. Snow on Monday and Tuesday as the low pressure system moves off to the east.

Mid-mountain forecast for the next few days:

Current snow and weather conditions in Myoko now:

  • 24 Hr Snow Fall: 20cm
  • Current Snow Depth at Akakura Onsen base: 350cm

  • Current Weather: Sunny
