Conditions for season opening

We haven’t had quite as much snow as hoped since the last report – probably around 15-20cm in total. Akakan Resort will open their top C course this weekend and the Sky Cable Gondola. The upside is that day lift passes will be very cheap – around 1,500-2,000 yen. No word on other resort openings this weekend.

A nice base building in readiness for the season start here in Myoko next weekend. With more snow forecast over the next few days it looks like all systems go. If you’re in Tokyo or Osaka and deciding whether to come up for Christmas or not, you better start booking now 🙂

A compatriot in Nozawa Onsen has already been out on his skidoo this weekend getting some turns in. You would be seeing similar conditions on the upper slopes here in the Myoko Kogen ski areas

Two weeks to go!

Well, we’re all getting pretty stoked here as we wait for the opening weekend in two weeks time. The lifts are being checked, the facilities are being readied, new staff are arriving and, most importantly, we have some snow on the ground. 🙂 We received about 20cm on 3rd December and there should be some follow up falls this week according to the Myoko weather forecasts. Fingers crossed we’ll have a nice base in place soon before we really get into the annual war on snow.

Last Myoko Kogen Snow Report for season 2009/10

Despite getting pretty close to the end of the season we’ve still been getting some half decent snowfalls here this week – admittedly with a bit of rain mixed in. However there’s more snow forecast for over the weekend and into next week.

There’s still well over a metre and a half of snow base left here – plenty for those still considering a spring break on the slopes of Myoko. So grab the skis and get up here.

The report is now winding up for the season. Hope you all had a good season, from the Crew at Myoko Snowsports and Ski The Heart of Japan, see you next season!
