I have been meaning to put this info up on the main site but not sure where it should go.

FYI there is a government run centre in Sekiyama (near Tsubame Onsen) - http://myoko.niye.go.jp/ - that is popular with school groups and quite cheap (as little as Y200 a night).

Activities, such as igloo building and snow shoeing, can be arranged.
