Myoko Snow Report 10 January 2016

Report by David Churchill / Myoko Snowsports

Sunshine this morning and fresh snow before more snow tonight.

Current Conditions
A few clouds hanging around this morning but it’s mostly sunny with the temperature at -4 degrees.

24 Hour Recap
We had a snowy day yesterday with some ankle to knee deep powder around the mountain.

Today’s Picks
A cruise down Elegant for beginners, Panorama on the Onsen side for intermediate and advanced riders should head to Champion B for a steep groomed run.

Weather Outlook

A clear morning before another 30-40cm tonight and tomorrow. We’re then looking at more snow Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but totals are difficult to estimate at this stage. Winds will be light and the temperature will stay very cold over the next five days.

From tonight, the next week is looking really good for Myoko. We are finally returning to a normal winter airflow that should deliver low temperatures and high snowfall. Wednesday may see a little glitch in the system with the chance of some warmer air moving in from the west-south-west. But even if that plays out, things should sort themselves out on Thursday with next weekend looking like it’ll deliver on the snow front.

Unlike the systems since Christmas that have barely reached Myoko or been offset by warm westerly air, the pattern in the next week looks much more likely to maintain low temperatures and deliver the kind of snow we’d expect from mid January.

7 Day Outlook for Akakura Onsen Mountain Base, from meteoblue.
