Myoko Snow Report 20 December 2015: Opening Day

Myoko Snow Report 20 December 2015

Opening Day

After yesterday’s snow, the sun’s out this morning in Myoko. There’s a bit of activity around town with Akakura Onsen Ski Resort opening today. The cover’s pretty thin so only the Yodel 3 lift will be operating. Madarao Resort is also open today. Akakan, Ikenotaira, Suginohara and Seki Onsen are still closed due to snow conditions. Probably no need to wax up the powder boards just yet, but if you’re keen for a few early-season turns it’s a beautiful day to get out on the hill.

If you’re up for a drive, Nozawa Onsen is also open.

In Myoko the temperature stayed below zero overnight but was up to 2 degrees by 9am in the village. That trend is forecast to continue through to Christmas before the freezing level heads south and things get interesting on the 26. Word from the local snow-clearing crew is that we’re in for some snow.
