Important News!
According to a recent report (July 09) Myoko Pine Valley ski lifts will not be open for the 2009/10 ski season. At this stage it appears to be a longer-term closure rather than a temporary measure. We will update when further details are available.
OverVIEW
Myoko APA Pine Valley Resort (アパリゾート妙高パインバレースキー場) is an all year round ski, golf, hot spring and leisure resort. It is a smallish ski resort with only four ski lifts but it does however boast a respectable 365 metres (1197 feet) of vertical descent. The gondola serves a green and red run both of which are reasonably long and enjoyable, though neither are challenging. The area is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both beginners and advanced skiers. For boarders there is a half-pipe and some jumps and each night one chair lift keeps running until 9pm for those who enjoy night skiing. However, for skiers and boarders above beginner/intermediate more than one day here will probably leave you wanting more choice.
Overall Myoko APA Pine Valley is probably a good choice for families with young children. The pistes tend to be pleasantly uncrowded and the resort is quiet and self-contained. There is also day care and/or children’s ski school. If you want to relax afterwards there is an onsen with a pleasant open-air area at the APA Pine Valley Hotel.
