There are numerous Myoko Ski School options, both adult classes and kids ski school classes. English-speaking ski instructors are available for both group or private lessons. There are plentiful establishments to arrange your ski and snowboard rentals in Myoko Kogen and at usually very competitive rates. Larger foreign boot sizes are not difficult to find (apart maybe from size 12 up!). It is highly recommended to pre-book all ski equipment.
KidS Ski School and Childcare in Myoko
There are some excellent junior ski schools, kids activities, child care and snow playgrounds available at many of the Myoko Kogen Ski Resorts. You can check out all of the resort-based options available on the various resort pages (go to the resort listings at right). Look in 'resort stats' for the child care and ski school links. Note: not all of these options will include English speakers.
Hotels such as the Windsor Hotel in Shin-Akakura (a.k.a. Akakura Kanko or Akakan) have convenient childcare facilities for kids (6 months - 2 years old. Older children by negotiation - usually 1,000 yen per hour). English speaking activities and childcare in Myoko Kogen are available at Myoko Snowsports in Akakura Champion.
Japan Ski School instruction in English
One example of English speaking ski school and rentals in Myoko Kogen is the newly established Myoko Snowsports in Akakura Champion. Another is Yodel Ski School in Akakura Onsen who also offer junior race training and kids programs.
Snowboard & Ski Rental/Purchase
Many Myoko hotels also have ski rentals on-site such as Canadian House in Myoko Kogen. For those wishing to purchase their gear, secondhand and even new equipment can be picked up very cheaply at retailers like Off House (Motto: We love annoying jingles on rote tape) in Joetsu City (opposite Jusco - see map).
