Weather Outlook

Sunny, light winds and relatively warm for the next three days, although there’s quite a bit of moisture in the air a few kilometres offshore in the sea of Japan for the whole of this period so there’s a slight chance it could drift down onto us occasionally. Warm snow Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we could pick up a bit of sleet in the village.

Report by David Churchill / Myoko Snowsports

The sun is out and it’s another beautiful day in Myoko.

Current Conditions
Sunny, Light winds and the temperature is sitting at -8 degrees.

24 Hour Recap
We had a sunny start yesterday before fog and light snow moved in around mid morning and we picked up a few cm.

Today’s Picks
Hotel B and Kokutai will be great if you’re looking for a fast groomer this morning. Elegant for a cruisy beginner run through the Sugi trees.

Weather Outlook
Calm today before light snowfall begins tonight. It will be a bit warmer during the day tomorrow as winds move around to the south. Snow up top and mid mountain however we may pick up a little sleet or drizzle in the village. A sharp drop in temperature tomorrow night as westerly winds take over and keep it cold until at least Friday. Plenty of snow in the forecast between now and Friday with 50+cm forecast over this period.

We have light snow this morning which is becoming heavier as the morning progresses.

Current Conditions
Light snow is falling in the village this morning with light winds and the temperature is sitting around -2 degrees.

24 Hour Recap
We had plenty of sunshine yesterday morning before the clouds rolled in in the afternoon. Cold temps last night and we picked up a few cm of snow overnight.

Today’s Picks
Head to elegant today for a cruisy beginner run through the Sugi tree forests. For something a bit faster head over to Hotel Main, B and C on the Kanko side. Hotel A, Champion A and Mogul challenge are still pretty icy and bumpy so it might be best to wait until the next big dump before tackling them.

Weather Outlook
It looks as though we should pick up a few cm this morning and another 20 cm this afternoon and tonight. A bit of light snow Friday, Saturday and Sunday before temps rise a little on Monday and we could pick up a bit of sleet in the village. The good news is that cold northerlies take over pretty quick and we’re looking at 50+cm of dry snow on Monday and Tuesday. We’re still four days away from this though so models may change.

Myoko Snow Report 19 December 2015

More Snow Overnight

After yesterday’s sun, the clouds rolled back in last night and the snow machine fired up again.

Myoko Snow Report 19 December 2015

We got another 10cm or so in Akakura overnight and it’s still dumping down out there at the moment. Up on the mountain, there may be a bit more on the ground. Driving up to Suginohara and Akakan yesterday there seemed to be a bit more coverage than down in the village. We’re still not talking huge amounts, but there’s a good cover sticking to everything now and it’s starting to look like winter proper out there. With a bit of luck we’ll get a bit more snow through this morning before things start to clear up again.

Myoko Snow Report 19 December 2015 Myoko Snow Report 19 December 2015

Temperature outside the Red Warehouse Lodge was sitting around zero at 7am but the snow on the ground was reasonably dry. The temperature is forecast to stay low through today before the freezing level starts to climb through tomorrow. By Wednesday and Thursday that freezing level might be a concern as the next band of moisture moves in. We’ll keep an eye on that over the next few days and hope Santa comes through with the goods for a white Christmas.

Resort opening dates are still up in the air. From yesterday’s media releases, all resorts scheduled to open today had postponed pending snow. Last night’s falls might see some re-consider, but as the weather is supposed to clear through today, I’d be surprised to see much open this weekend.
We’ll report any updates on our Facebook page.

Myoko Snow Report December 16 2015: The waiting game.

Myoko Snow Report December 16 2015

The waiting game

Welcome to the Myoko Snow Report December 16 2015. It’s a cool, overcast morning here in Myoko. The thermometer outside the door is reading 5 degrees and there’s a bit of light rain about today.

There’s still no snow on the ground in town and by the looks of the mountain, the resorts will need a dump before the end of the week to be able to open as planned this weekend.

The good news is that temperatures are forecast to drop through today and into tonight, with the freezing level set to dip below 1000m by tomorrow and stay there through to the end of the week. Hopefully we’ll see some snow on the ground by the weekend.

Myoko Snow Report December 16 2015

The temperature is forecast to  drop and there’s plenty of moisture around – fingers crossed!

With the resorts’ opening days rapidly approaching, the Myoko ski community, town officials and school children gathered at the town shrine yesterday morning for the annual season-opening ceremony and pray for a safe and prosperous season. Lets hope the snow gods are listening!
