Bluebird and snowing? And cold!

Myoko Snow Report

BBBRRRRRRRRRR! Can you believe we got -15 degrees here last night? There was some snow yesterday which was followed by a clear night meaning the temperatures plummeted. Hope everyone had their electric blankets working to fend off the Myoko snow monkeys, er, brass monkeys.

After a day of dumping snow yesterday the storm has broken and the sun is poking through the early morning fog. The diggers are finishing up clearing snow from the last few days, time for the drivers to get some time on the slopes!

And this is why the diggers have been busy, where did we park the car hon?

The holiday makers have all got in their buses yesterday and gone home after the long weekend. More pow for those left. 🙂

Myoko Kogen Snow Report 10th December 2012

Hello everyone! and welcome back to the Myoko Kogen snow report for the season of 2012/2013.

It is already shaping up to be an incredible season, the snow is falling as I type this, with what I estimate to be around 50cm – 60cm over night, the gondola and a couple of other lifts are opening on the 15th with the others following soon after that.

We hope to bring you up to date reports and images this season and hopefully a couple of good snow report videos a week (pending the new camera arriving!), keep watching and get those skis and boards ready! – Matty

24 Hour Snow Fall: 50 – 60cm

Current Snow Depth at Base: Approx 70cm

Current Snow Conditions: Powder

temperature: -5° at 10 am

Current Weather: snowing

Current Visibility: fair

Our first big dig for the season, there are two big 8 seater vans in there somewhere and one poor little CRV.

Last Myoko snow report for 2010/11

60 Hour Snow Fall: 0cm

Current Snow Depth at Base: 300cm

Current Snow Conditions: Firm groomers with great base. Rain forecast but possibly snow as well.

Commentary: All good things must come to an end and activities are winding up here in Myoko, although Myoko Snow Sports will still be open until April 3rd.

Current situation: Myoko Ski Park has closed for the season with Madarao and Ikenotaira doing likewise tomorrow. Akakura Onsen and Akakan are still operating just about fully. Others such as Suginohara and Tangram are running only a few lifts so check the resort websites before coming up. Seki Onsen (see pic below) has a great base (presently over 5 metres!) and will likely stay open for at least another 4-6 weeks.

It’s a pity as the March snow is fantastic. Backcountry anyone?

Thanks from all the crew here, it’s been a great winter. If you’re not coming up for the great spring snow we’ll see you next season in Myokokogen!

P.S. Please don’t forget to donate to Japan Red Cross to aid earthquake/tsunami victims

Current Base Temperature: -2°c at 4:30am

Current Weather: Sunny morning turning to overcast

Current Visibility: Good down low
