Light Snow & Warm

Report by David Churchill/Myoko Snowsports

Current Conditions

It’s pretty warm this morning with the temperature sitting at 2 degrees in the village, but we’ve been lucky to avoid the rain and pick up some light snow. Winds are light.

This was the view from the groomer at Suginohara in the pre-dawn this morning.

24 Hour Recap

A nice warm sunny day yesterday reminding us of spring. Firm conditions in the morning before the sun softened things up and south facing slopes got a bit slushy in the afternoon. We had a relatively warm night with some light snow.

Weather Outlook

Warm and light snow which may turn to sleet or rain lower down today before the temperature drops a few degrees tonight and winds move around to the north. Expect about 20-30cm of heavy snow today. Light snow Saturday to Wednesday with some sun and cold temperatures. Winds should stay light throughout.

Warm slushy conditions out there today with a max temp. of 0c at Akakura Kanko. We can expect thick fog down to low elevations, shutting down visibility all round the Myoko Kogen area.

The final day of 2014 should be colder with a front approaching, bringing us substantial new snow for the New Year! Head over to Akakura Onsen for free Miso Ramen on the 31st. Don’t forget the sunrise ski at Akakan on New Years Day.

Higher up on Suginohara this afternoon the clouds have started to clear a bit (see photo below). Tomorrow is looking very promising as an all out powder day 🙂

First Myoko Snow Report of the season – 13 November 2013

Welcome to the first Myoko Snow Report of 2013/14. The snow has started falling here a few days earlier than last year which hopefully bodes for a good season to come. Many long term forecasts also seem to point in that direction.

48 Hr Snow Fall: 50cm in Myokokogen, approx 100cm in Akakura

Current Temperature: 2° at 11.00am (at The Heart of Japan office in Myokokogen)

Current Weather: Cloud, light fluffy snow falling

Current Visibility: Not much on the mountain!

Here’s a video that we took from the office this morning. The snowfall has been fairly constant over the last 48 hours. It will ease off today or tomorrow and we might very well get complete melt. At least that will give us time to get our snowblower sorted before the real start to the season. 🙂

Hello everyone! and welcome back to the Myoko Kogen snow report for the season of 2012/2013.

We hope to bring you up to date reports and images this season and hopefully a couple of good snow report videos a week (pending the new camera arriving!), keep watching and get those skis and boards ready! – Matty
