The snows are coming to Myoko

For the most recent Myoko Snow Report go here.

Checking in for the first time this season. We’ve had some good snows on the top of the ranges from about 1500m up that is sticking. The weekend is likely to be a bit warm but there’s a fairly big cold front coming through on Monday so we’re hoping for some very good falls. No set date for resort opening but estimated around mid-December. 🙂

If you’re heading over to Nozawa Onsen check out our new Nozawa Onsen Snow Report @ http://nozawa-onsen.com/snow-report

Last Myoko snow report for 2010/11

60 Hour Snow Fall: 0cm

Current Snow Depth at Base: 300cm

Current Snow Conditions: Firm groomers with great base. Rain forecast but possibly snow as well.

Commentary: All good things must come to an end and activities are winding up here in Myoko, although Myoko Snow Sports will still be open until April 3rd.

Current situation: Myoko Ski Park has closed for the season with Madarao and Ikenotaira doing likewise tomorrow. Akakura Onsen and Akakan are still operating just about fully. Others such as Suginohara and Tangram are running only a few lifts so check the resort websites before coming up. Seki Onsen (see pic below) has a great base (presently over 5 metres!) and will likely stay open for at least another 4-6 weeks.

It’s a pity as the March snow is fantastic. Backcountry anyone?

Thanks from all the crew here, it’s been a great winter. If you’re not coming up for the great spring snow we’ll see you next season in Myokokogen!

P.S. Please don’t forget to donate to Japan Red Cross to aid earthquake/tsunami victims
