Myoko Snow Report 26 December 2015

Report by David Churchill / Myoko Snowsports

A much needed 15cm of snow fell last night, however we will need a little more to open up the rest of the resort.

Here are a few pictures from this morning:

We’re expecting another 60cm over the next three days so hopefully we’ll have everything open soon.

Myoko Snow Report 18 December 2015: Good Morning Winter!

Myoko Snow Report 18 December 2015

Good Morning Winter!

Winter has arrived and it’s looking pretty good this morning in Myoko. About 15-20cm of fresh snow fell overnight and the village and mountains looked amazing at dawn. There’s no wind and it looks like we could see some sun today. More snow is forecast tonight.

The temperature was +0.5 degrees at 7:20 outside Red Warehouse lodge in Akakura so hopefully it’ll stay cold as forecast for the next 48 hours.

Here are a few shots from around the Akakura and Akakan:

What does this mean for skiing? Well, it’s a start but it’d only ankle deep – even if you were grass skiing. So we’re going to need more snow.

Many of the resorts scheduled to open over the weekend have postponed (see here) but as of last night Madarao was supposed to open this morning.

There’s still some snow forecast for tonight:

If that comes through, then it’s possible some resorts may still decide to fire up a lift or two but realistically whatever riding there to be done over the weekend will probably be pretty token.

But it’s a good start and hopefully it’ll be all systems go before too long. Bring on winter!

The calm before the storm

Myoko Kogen Snow Report

The weather calmed down yesterday and even though it went from sunshine to flat light the conditions were fantastic, fresh powder still to be found everywhere. There has been a further few centimetres added overnight adding a soft top to the base. Temperatures have remained cold today with some occasional heavy bursts of snow. Up on the mountain it’s pretty much a whiteout with limited visibility.

Pukey Yuki!!

Myoko Kogen Snow Report

Well the forecast snow came a little later as predicted, which seems to be the norm this season, we had around 40cm over night but it is snowing HEAVILY right now, so expect much more throughout the day. (Later edit: It has continued through much of the day!).

Apologies for lack of a forecast yesterday there was fresh snow and sunshine at Seki Onsen (see pic below), so most available Myoko snow reporters were hitting the pow. Hell we’re only human!

Don’t forget to book your Myoko accommodation soon (if you haven’t already). Hotels are filling up!

Bluebird and snowing? And cold!

Myoko Snow Report

BBBRRRRRRRRRR! Can you believe we got -15 degrees here last night? There was some snow yesterday which was followed by a clear night meaning the temperatures plummeted. Hope everyone had their electric blankets working to fend off the Myoko snow monkeys, er, brass monkeys.

After a day of dumping snow yesterday the storm has broken and the sun is poking through the early morning fog. The diggers are finishing up clearing snow from the last few days, time for the drivers to get some time on the slopes!

Myoko Kogen Snow Report 14th January 2014

And this is why the diggers have been busy, where did we park the car hon?

Myoko Kogen Snow Report 14th January 2014

The holiday makers have all got in their buses yesterday and gone home after the long weekend. More pow for those left. 🙂
