Myoko Kogen Snow Report 6 January 2014
Snow continuing on and off all day
Myoko Kogen Snow Report
Snow has been continuing on and off all day here in Myoko Kogen, probably adding about 10cm or so to the current base. The base varies across the resorts from a reported 100cm at Ikenotaira up to 200cm at Akakan. Skiing is good on a compacted base with a continuing soft top up. There’s a new park being constructed in Akakura Kanko (Akakan). This is how it was looking today.
Madarao Kogen Snow Report (lifted from Nagano Snow Reports @ The Daily Flake)
There’s been around 10cm of fresh snow at Madarao Kogen since this morning and it’s continued to snow on and off all day. The temperature is staying very at several degrees below (and much colder in gusts). Visibility is mixed with some cloud, fog and sun.

60 Hour Snow Fall: 0cm
Current Snow Depth at Base: 300cm
Current Snow Conditions: Firm groomers with great base. Rain forecast but possibly snow as well.
Commentary: All good things must come to an end and activities are winding up here in Myoko, although Myoko Snow Sports will still be open until April 3rd.
Current situation: Myoko Ski Park has closed for the season with Madarao and Ikenotaira doing likewise tomorrow. Akakura Onsen and Akakan are still operating just about fully. Others such as Suginohara and Tangram are running only a few lifts so check the resort websites before coming up. Seki Onsen (see pic below) has a great base (presently over 5 metres!) and will likely stay open for at least another 4-6 weeks.
It’s a pity as the March snow is fantastic. Backcountry anyone?
Thanks from all the crew here, it’s been a great winter. If you’re not coming up for the great spring snow we’ll see you next season in Myokokogen!
P.S. Please don’t forget to donate to Japan Red Cross to aid earthquake/tsunami victims
